Giving Back

My 16 year old daughter told me about an Uber driver who carried around extra fruit, granola bars, and water to hand out to the homeless.

I thought this was a grand idea and good way of giving back.  I adopted the idea myself.

Then today, while heading to Impact Hub Oakland via Uber, I met Phat, another Uber driver giving back.  Phat was born in Vietnam, is 46 years old, married with two kids, 5 years old, and 6 months old.

Phat and his family escaped from Vietnam in 1978, he remembers bullets flying as they were on the boat to Hong Kong.  They then flew to New York and took an Amtrak to Oakland.

Phat is a proud Oakland resident since age 5.  He contributes granola bars (buys in bulk from Costco) to homeless folks in tent cities and beyond.

He also donates lost items not retrieved from his Uber.

He is going to purchase a rack for his vehicle to store larger items for give away.  He needs to keep the truck clear for luggage.

Let’s all think of ways we can give back.  There but for the grace of God . . .

Peace, love, joy, gratitude, faith, compassion and blessings.
